Here are some great resources that I consider to be both fun and useful. One of the best ways to get to know a person, I feel, is to know what they enjoy. While there are many things that I enjoy in the physical world (martial arts, dance, textiles, to name a few) here are some of the things that I enjoy in the digital world.
Project Gutenberg
- Explanation
- This is a nonprofit organization that digitizes books and other literary materials which have aged out of copyright and makes them freel available on the internet.
Archive of Our Own
- Explanation
- This is an archive of fan creations, mostly literary but some artisitic works, that expand upon or explore the worlds defined by other authors. It is still under development and a creation of the nonprofit Organization for Transformative Works.
XKCD Comic
- Explanation
- "A Webcomic of Romance, Sarcasm, Math, and Language." What can I say? I like nerd humor.
TED Talks
- Explanation
- "Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world." This is an amazing site that I do not spend nearly enough time on. It opens up new worlds and introduces new concepts and I can spend hours watching talk after talk.
